I want to get good at the guitar because it would be nice to get paid for playing some tunes… if not that then at least it’ll be fun to jam around a bonfire when camping.
I think the identity of someone who enjoys music and someone motivated and inspired can earn a living off of playing music… but I don’t really know what it takes to get there yet, Like, if I did I wouldn’t be here trying to figure it out
What I really need to do is just get started and I don’t know how to get pumped up to do it… but I guess ill try playing a few bars every day just to start with.
January 8, 2019 at 9:41 am #4727That’s a great goal to have, Brian! As you progress through the habit challenge, you’ll learn all about the Motivation Myth, which will help you realize that Motivation and Inspiration are not as important as having a schedule and following through with it. You’ll also learn to overcome Habit Inertia so that it will be much easier for you to get started with your habit!
Keep going! We look forward to seeing your progress.

Just got done reading another workbook.
I’ll probably start my habit at 15 mins a day then work my way up.
I don’t quite get why but i guess I’ll set an upper limit at 30 mins or after i learn one full song or something…
I’ll add a couple of minutes every week to make more progress
If my practice gets more than an hour long Ill take breaks every hour
January 17, 2019 at 9:51 am #4729Hey, Brian. The idea is to start small so that it’s so easy that you won’t have an excuse not to do it. You’ll also be intensifying your habits in small increments and the idea is that you shouldn’t even feel your habit intensifying. Your habit should snowball without you realizing it and without making the increase feel difficult.
You’re doing great! Keep at it! 🙂

I think I’ll start practising every after lunch
1 pm or something like that
Already got a calendar at home so I didn’t buy one
I got my guitar on the porch and I can always see it from the dining room
I tried to do it before chores but its hard coz i get interrupted, I wanna get chores out of the way before I practice
I also dont wanna do it at night because I’ll be sleepy.
January 21, 2019 at 10:05 am #4731That’s a good start, Brian. That being said, later on, it’ll be a good idea to figure out what time of the day you’ll do your next set once your practice time exceeds one hour.
As you progress in the habit challenge you’ll learn to make your habits more convenient so that it will be easier for you to allocate more practice time.

I just got done with another workbook
I start my practice by playing every chord I know so far, and once I do that I just keep on practising by playing other songs that I already know
If I have a songbook, I fold the corner so I can remember which song I’m practising
Sometimes a friend will give me chords for a song to practice
My phone will ring when its time to stop practising so I don’t go past the upper limit
My mantra goes like dis
“I don’t miss daily practice”

Hey there, Brian! Have you tried Yousician? I think it’s a great app that will help you learn to play the guitar.

Hey, man! Thanks for sharing!
I’ll give it a shot and see what happens!
January 26, 2019 at 12:27 pm #4736Hey, Brian! 🙂 It’s good to know that you do have a warmup routine. It’ll help you consistently get started on your practice habit.
If you have a songbook, you can get yourself a bookmark so you don’t damage the songbook by folding the pages.
Have you also tried hiring a teacher? Guidance from a good instructor will help you practice more effectively.

I don’t think I have the cash to hire a teacher, but the app thTyroneone gave me helped.
Also just got done wid another workbook.
So I just got me a set of extra strings so if the ones on my guitar snap, I can just go change it and not have to leave the house.
Also got a bucket list of songs I wanna learn as I practice
Since I help out wid d family business in the mornings, I’ll always have time to practice but I get calls after lunch sometimes to help out… I told my folks to keep 1 o-clock for me so I’ll still get to play after lunch.
I also gave my folks a different number and I’ll only answer that number when I practice… means its always an emergency when I get a call from that number
January 30, 2019 at 10:42 am #4738I think it’s great that you invested in making sure that you don’t get interrupted while practising. It’s also good that you let your family know your schedule so that they can take your practice time into account. If you haven’t already, let them in on your progress with the habit challenge so that they can support you in building habits.

So I just got done with the accountability workbook.
I don’t think I want anyone keeping tabs on me practising, but my sis wants to listen while I practice and she’s making song requests now…
So at least someone knows that I’ve been practising
Also didn’t wanna get an earful from my folks since they know I bought me a pricey guitar, Don’t think they wanna see it gathering dust.
February 4, 2019 at 11:01 am #4740Hey, Brian. Apprising family members of your progress is a good start. You can also post your progress on social media so that people will know you’ve been practising even if they aren’t monitoring you. I think you’ll see that some of your friends will be proud of you for sticking to your habits. 🙂

I think this is the last workbook so here it goes.
If I get sick or feel tired, ill at least play each chord Iknow once so that I don’t forget how they sound
I might get interrupted by family emergencies, calls from the family business, and if the chores take too long to finish
If there s an emergency, it’ll be the exception, but ill still play each chord once.
If i get calls from the family business, then I’ll continue practising after I finish what i was called for, Otherwise, I’ll play each chord at least once
if the chores take too long, then ill start practice after i get done with them. ill reduce the duration f its necessary
